So many people today are wandering around looking for “Someone” to follow. They run here and they run there looking for someone to lead them. People get into their circle of friends and if someone says something negative about a preacher then everyone believes it. People go searching through the internet writing things like “Is [so and so] a false prophet?” as if they are asking a crystal ball and expecting a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ reply. Well, you know who answers crystal balls? The devil does.

No one should be looking for “public opinion” about a person. Neither should anyone be asking questions like fortune telling.

The Bible does instruct us to question leadership. The Bible offers us guidelines to follow so we may know if a preacher is a sheep or a wolf.

(1)Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 1 John 4:13-15

(2) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

(3) Do they teach from the Bible? Or what book are they using? A whole lot of people think they are reading from the Bible but I have found that they are not reading from the King James or Torah. Every time some committee or group of people get together to re-write yet another version of the Bible verses are changed, the context of the verses are changed, the Name of God, Jesus, or Christ and many other words get omitted. All these various Bible versions on the market are the devils agenda to confuse people and drive people into a different gospel- a damning gospel.

I used to go to a church that spent an 8 week study on the book of some celebrity false teacher. This is a huge red flag!

(4) There are many, many characteristics of cults. See our page about cults to find these lists.

We must be cautious of modern cults that contain the Christian label… Cults who claim to believe in the Bible, but use alternative sources for doctrinal teaching are dangerous… Do not be afraid to question the leader’s teachings! –Sisterlisa, Characterisitcs of a Cult

If you have to go around asking others what “they think” about someone then it is PROOF that your relationship with the Lord and your knowledge of the Bible is weak. Instead of following the crowds and “public opinion” why not make time to read and study the Word of God on your own and seek HIM in prayer. If you are not willing to do that then you are not genuinely trusting the Lord or believing in Him. The Bible is the INSPIRED WORD OF GOD. It is HIS guidebook to everything in life for us. If you pray for understanding of the Word, for wisdom, and for discernment then the Holy Spirit will show you whose spirit is speaking, a wolf or a sheep.
