There was once a man who asked me to pray for him to get a particular, expensive wrist watch that he wanted. He reasoned that it was ‘God’s will‘ for him. He often asked me to pray for him for many things going against him in his life including the loss of his ministry that he wanted to rebuild. He said that he had lost everything, even his marriage was unstable. Yes, this man was a preacher.
He would only listen to scriptures which supported what made him “feel good.” Any mention of scriptures about false apostles or laying everything down for the Lord then he would become angry and defensive and go right back to defending his biblical reasons why God should give him that watch.
Nonsense like that was a contributing factor to why I departed from social networking. Superficial pretenders.
In order to be a genuine follower of Jesus Christ you have got to be able and willing to lay down everything. Absolutely everything! Have you given much thought to what that word ‘everything’ means? Jesus Christ laid it all down for us at the Cross. He will test your loyalties. You may or may not have to endure the loss of everything, but as we move closer to the day of the Lord’s return more people will endure greater losses.
What has you bound? What is your obsession? What is your idol? Is it having lots of money? Or spending it? Is it your job? Or attention from others? Is it food? Or is it your nice home, or luxury car or boat? Is it television? Is it sports? Or smoking? Or drinking? Or drugs? Or pornography? Do you envy others? Or covet? Is it jealousies? All these things are of this world. Whatever you place before God becomes your idol. If you lost it all, would you still desire to cling to Jesus? Or would you be cursing Him?
At this moment you are probably saying that there is nothing that has any hold on you, however if the real situation arised you might not do what you think you would do. We often do not know what we would do in a situation until it happens to us, but the Bible says,
Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, SELL WHATSOEVER THOU HAST, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and FOLLOW ME. Mark 10:21
God Tests Abraham
Genesis 22 records the story of God testing Abraham. God speaks to Abraham asking him for a burnt sacrifice. The lamb God was asking to be sacrificed was not the animal. It was Abraham’s son, Isaac.
Hebrews 11:17 recounts this story.
“By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son.”
Abraham physically took his son and placed him on the altar then God stopped him seconds before actually killing his son. God wanted to know if Abraham loved Him or his son more.
Genesis 22 says it all. Money and material wealth most often becomes people’s ‘god’ whether they admit to it or not. Are YOU WILLING TO PUT IT ALL ON THE ALTAR as Abraham did Isaac?
The Bible WARNS us to come out from amongst the world and be separate.
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you. 2 Corinthians 6:17
Don’t ‘play church’
People who are caught up and bound by the things of this world will one day face God and hear Him say “Depart from Me, I never knew you”? And Satan will be laughing at you because you thought that you were fooling God with your Christian act, but attending religious services and activities will not save you. The joke will be on you.
The surest way to be ready for whatever comes our way and for the Lord’s return is to seek Him everyday and ask the Lord to cleanse our hearts and minds from this world. If there are unhealthy habits that you have tried to break and cannot then there may be a demon (evil spirit) involved to keep you chained. Do not allow the devil to keep you chained. Cast the evil spirit out. In the name of Jesus and under His authority command that spirit to go. Tell Satan that you are a child of God and you are not going to tolerate anymore. Every time that habit or obsession tries to manipulate you, cast it out in the name of Jesus. If you give everything you have to Jesus then you will have everything you need and more.
